The CRIS group is currently researching what type of paranormal activity happens during a smudging. A smudging is a Native American ritual used to clear an area of negative spirits or energy. The Holy man or woman of a tribe will gather sage, cedar or sweet grass and roll it into a "wand" which will be burned at the site to release these trapped spirits. Lisa has wrapped a fan of feathers entwined with bright red thread to wave smoke into the area. The red thread according to some traditions signifies that an object is "Holy" or "Sacred".

In Cristianity certain substances may be used in clearings or Exorcisms. These may include Rose Oil, Frankincense oil or Holy water blessed by a priest. Usually these rituals are performed by Catholic Priests or Charismatic's.
